Samsung Exynos 1680 SoC Official Release: Everything You Need to Know

The mid range smartphone market is about to get a major performance boost. Samsung has officially announced the launch of its latest mobile processor, the Exynos 1680. Built on an advanced 4nm process, this new chipset is designed to bring premium features and high speed connectivity to the upcoming Galaxy A series smartphones. With a focus on artificial intelligence and gaming, the Exynos 1680 marks a significant step forward from its predecessors.

Advanced Architecture and CPU Performance

The Exynos 1680 utilizes a sophisticated octa core CPU designed with a tri cluster architecture. This layout is specifically engineered to balance high performance tasks with energy efficiency. At the heart of the chip is a single Cortex A720 prime core clocked at 2.9GHz, which handles the most demanding applications.

Supporting the prime core are four Cortex A720 performance cores running at 2.6GHz. This is a notable upgrade from previous generations, as Samsung has swapped an efficiency core for an additional mid tier core to ensure smoother multitasking. For lighter background tasks, the chip relies on three Cortex A520 efficiency cores clocked at 1.95GHz. This combination allows for a 1+4+3 configuration that delivers a responsive user experience without draining the battery.

Next Generation Graphics with AMD RDNA 3

Gaming enthusiasts will find a lot to love in the Exynos 1680. Samsung has continued its collaboration with AMD to integrate the Xclipse 550 GPU. This graphics unit is based on the cutting edge AMD RDNA 3 architecture, which is the same technology found in high end gaming consoles and PC graphics cards.

The Xclipse 550 GPU provides a 16% performance increase over the previous Exynos 1580. It features hardware accelerated ray tracing support, which brings realistic lighting and reflections to mobile games. Additionally, the chip supports Full HD+ displays with refresh rates up to 144Hz, ensuring that every animation and transition looks incredibly fluid.

Revolutionary On Device AI Capabilities

Artificial intelligence is the cornerstone of the 2026 mobile experience. The Exynos 1680 features a powerful new Neural Processing Unit (NPU) capable of executing 19.6 trillion operations per second (TOPS). This represents a 33% improvement in AI processing power compared to last year.

By moving AI tasks directly onto the device rather than relying on the cloud, the Exynos 1680 enables faster and more secure features. This includes advanced photo editing tools like Object Eraser, real time language translation, and improved voice recognition. The dedicated AI hardware also optimizes camera performance by using an intelligent Image Signal Processor (ISP) to reduce noise and enhance colors in low light environments.

Connectivity and Future Proof Features

In an era of high speed data, the Exynos 1680 does not disappoint. The integrated 5G modem supports both Sub 6GHz and mmWave bands, reaching download speeds of up to 5.1Gbps. It also introduces support for Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 6.1, providing more stable connections and lower latency for wireless earbuds and smart home devices.

The chip is also built for high resolution photography. Its ISP can handle camera sensors up to 200MP, allowing mid range phones to capture professional grade detail. With support for LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage, the Exynos 1680 ensures that app loading times are nearly instantaneous.
