Behold the first AI flagship phone, the Google Pixel 9 Pro! The tech giant has introduced an all-pervasive AI Android device. While all the features may not be equally significant in a person’s daily life, they can certainly open multiple doors for innovation in the future. The AI powered tools are better than ever with familiar yet improved versions of features like Magic Editor in Photos, Pixel Studio for developing AI-generated videos or images, and Gemini Live for conversation with AI.
- Design
Google has outdone itself this time as they have successfully managed to fend off many skeptics as far as the phone’s design is concerned. The polished design and great attention to detail will make you think twice before calling it an iPhone rip-off.
The phone comes in some beautiful shades of rose quartz, porcelain, hazel, and obsidian (stunning matt black finish). The subtly rounded corners give it a unique look and the raised camera and visor well align with the profile of the device.
- Display
The new Pixel 9 Pro is as compact as it can be. With a surprisingly small OLED Super Actua display of 6.3 inches, it can easily fit into any pocket. The Pixel 9 Pro boasts a brightness of 2000 nits (with a peak brightness of 3000 nits), an improvement from the previous standard of 1600 nits (2400 peak) in Pixel Pro 8. - Performance and Battery Life
Like the previous models, the Pixel 9 Pro possesses a Tensor G4 chipset. It is one of the main reasons for the device’s relatively low-level performance and lags behind that of phones like the iPhone 12 from 2020. The processor tends to overheat even in normal conditions and is unsuitable for gaming.
The battery life can leave even the iPhone 15 in the dust. It has a 4700 mAh battery and can last an entire day after charging once with a 45 W charger. Unless the camera is used extensively and any gaming is done, the battery can last longer.
- Camera
If you are into photography or videography, look no further. It has a back camera which consists of three lenses – 50 MP (wide), 48 MP (periscope telephoto), and 48 MP (ultra wide) and can support the filming of 8K videos. On the other hand, the back camera is a 42 MP (ultra wide) single lens. - Software
The most talked about feature of this phone is Gemini Live. It allows you to have real conversations with AI which can interestingly catch the tone the user is speaking in. There are still slight delays in response to every question but you can interrupt the AI while it is still speaking. There is further room for improvement as it cannot provide accurate or sufficient answers to all your questions.
Barring the recent Android 15 update, Pixel 9 Pro will be able to receive 7 major updates in the future. There is no major difference compared to Android 14 but the interface is neat as always.
Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL are the models currently available for purchase in India with the prices ranging from Rs. 79,999 to Rs. 1,25,000 respectively. If you are a casual user who enjoys clicking photos every now and then, then Google Pixel 9 Pro is for you.
